Evening: Notnight, Notday
Evening is a movie about that magical time of not night, not day, the interstitial moments populated by lightning-bugs and the coolness descending. I remembered while not seeing this movie a moment when the orange sun had faded the clouds to bright pink and I felt free—the bounds of earth had loos’d. What magic is this? What powerful spirit can slow time and draw the heavy weights from our heart? Hugh Dancy is one of those, a being who withers upon the winds of twilight, the space between notnight and notday his workshop, the earth the ground upon which he spills his tender baubles. It is a lonely life, this! If only for a companion, a woman of unmatch’d sight who could join his ethereal house and bear him upon her own temperate wind. Is it? It is Claire Danes who answers this call, the summoning to levy his weighted mercies on those whose worn path is well shared? A couple so matched can only want for another, a friend that can together form a triad to bear greater upon the cardinal points. This friend, this Toni Collette, will join them in their twilight wanderings. She will also lay upon the earth her own tender hands! She of the Westerlies, can find the sun descending upon the great Pacific! This Toni Collete well forms the triad!
