Bonneville

BonnevilleI don’t know if you’ve ever seen any of these “middle-aged broads finally get to cut loose” movies, but they’re pretty great. There’s a part where they get drunk, and a part where they stay in a motel, and there’s some surprised shrieking, and then there’s laughing at the surprised shrieking. You usually get a couple of bridge-club heartthrobs thrown in too (in this case, Toms Skerritt and Wopat).

Bonneville puts a twist on the genre because only one of the middle-aged women looks middle-aged. Actually, she kind of looked that way when she was 30, so I guess she doesn’t look middle-aged either.

So if you were wondering why Bonneville had its premiere in 2006 but it didn’t come out in theaters until 2008 it’s because they were waiting for the actresses to look older. It didn’t work, but Jessica Lange did get more Asian-looking, and that’s a hot market right now.

Did I mention there’s crying and hugging?

PS: Dear Kathy Bates,
This is the first result when you google your name. I think maybe you need a new publicity agent.
