Shine A Light
So Shine A Light is this Rolling Stones concert movie that is directed by Martin Scorsese. It’s showing in IMAX theaters, so that’s were I went because those kind of movies are bigger.
Scorsese blew me away with his sweeping, majestic establishing shots, but I thought the movie really went downhill after that. The Stones’ new music was pretty boring, and the movie seemed like one extreme close-up of Keith Richards after another.
It wasn’t until I was coming back from the toilet (Red Vines — don’t ask) that I realized I had been in a screening of The Grand Canyon — An IMAX Adventure. That made me feel kind of dumb, but at least it explained the mule train.
Shine A Light was originally going to be rated R, but they changed it so it would be PG-13. I think that’s real nice because it is a movie for kids, after all, and keeping them out is just cruel.
The reason it was going to get a R is that there was this scene where Mick Jagger gets all super tweaked out and randy and– well, this is a family website so I won’t go into the details. I’ll just say there was something inflatable involved.
Martin Scorsese loved the scene, but the studio was insisting on a PG-13 rating. But then Scorsese realized that all he had to do was rotate the shot ninety degrees clockwise and then it looked just like Mick was singing with Christina Aguilera!
I smell Oscar.
