The Promotion is this movie with Stifler and John C. Reilly. Don’t get confused — this isn’t the actor John C. Reilly. This is the John C. Reilly that makes unbelievably shitty movies. The actor one died in a plane crash with Nicolas Cage and Paul Giamatti.

Anyways The Promotion is about how Stifler and John C. Reilly are fighting each other for a job that most people would rather pull their own ears off than have. This is a classic set-up, and it would be easy to go for the laughs here, but director Steven Conrad makes the more artistically authentic choice of making sure that nothing funny happens. Even when Jenna Fischer gets ’em out and lays them on Stifler’s head, it’s done real businesslike.

Actually come to think of it there was one funny part. It’s where John C. Reilly accidentally says the word “black” in front of a black guy. I almost laughed, but then I saw there was a black guy in the audience.

I’m going to go ahead and give The Promotion a grade of “B-” because if the audience is minus any Blacks, then you might laugh once.
