August Rush

August RushAs someone who’s spent decades studying and working in the performing arts, I’ve come to appreciate film in all its forms — from silly and romantic to experimental and abstract.

However, melodrama is one form I’ve never particularly enjoyed. I much prefer cinema that explores in detail the gray areas of life and love. But not many elder-porn movies come out during the holidays, so instead I’m reviewing August Rush.

You know that movie Once? About the smelly homeless guy making a racket on the guitar when all I’m trying to do is just use the frigging ATM, for cock’s sake? And then at the end of the movie you were all “Wha???” because you were still waiting for something to happen and then it ended, but you didn’t mind?

So anyways you were probably wondering “What if he knocked that girl up and they had a smelly homeless kid? They would probably abandon it.” And you would be right. That’s this movie.

I like how in the poster they made the stink lines look like musical notes.
